Question by juniper: What are the legal requirements for home schooling grade school age kids?
If I decide to home-school one or more of my children, what legal requirements do I have to meet in Illinois? One child is in 5th grade, the other would be in kindergarten next year. The reason would be the lack of quality education and quality teachers available where we live.

Here are the laws and regs for Illinois: http://hslda.org/laws/analysis/Illinois.pdf
Homeschools in IL are considered to be private schools; as long as you are educating your daughter according to her ability, and you keep appropriate records, you should be fine.

Birth certificate
Proof of residency
Proof of immunizations
Any standardized test scores that he has taken within the past two years
Any transcripts you may have - it is unlikely that he will get credit for those classes unless they were from an accredited school, but they will be helpful in placing him in the correct level of classes. If you do not have transcripts, make a list of the high school level classes he has completed. If they tell you he will have to re-take a class and you think he knows the work, insist that they test him first.
