Question by Bubbles: How do you choose the best home-school program?
I am thinking about home-schooling my children, ages 7 and 11, and I know there are different curriculum's for homeschool. I don't know where to go to find out about homeschooling resources or how to compare the different programs. In addition, what resources are available to home-school parents? How can you suplement the social aspects, art, PE, and other programs offered in school. I would like to find the program that is right for my children and encorporate all of the additional activities to create a well rounded education for them.

Welcome to HS'ing!
The first thing you should do, IMO, is find out your children's learning styles, and then your own learning/teaching style. This will help guide your curriculum decisions. Each child may need curriculum from a different company from the other.
Then attend a HS'ing convention near you (they usually go on from April-August) so you can see different curriculum in person. I have to do this because I'm so visual, and I want to see the "whole picture" of the progression through the curriculum - the entire scope and sequence.
At a HS convention, you can spend a lot of time in the vendor hall looking at curriculum, seeing the prices, comparing different ones, and typically getting a sale, or free shipping. Individual companies have booths, and then companies like Rainbow Resource Center have a giant booth with a wonderful selection of materials...and their giant catalog on hand so you can order there if they don't have what you want.
HS conventions also have seminars which are very helpful to all HS'ers.
At the same time as the above, contact your state/local HS'ing groups. You can sometimes find websites or Yahoo Groups for them. Attend some of the events to meet others and discuss curriculum. Some groups also have "curriculum share" nights, where members talk about the items they use. Our local group has a buy/sell/trade Yahoo Group also.
There are tons of resources and tons of activities for HS'ing. We live in a city of 80,000 and there's a huge HS community. I moved here from a city of 500,000 and it was even larger there. Here are some activities my son has done, or is currently doing. We've HS'ed for over 5 years.
*YMCA HS PE, Art, & Swimming classes
*HS Co-op - with 125 other kids and 22 classes to choose from
*HS bowling, ice skating, roller skating, movies
*HS classes at zoos and museums
*Boy Scouts (many HS'ers do 4H also)
*Park district sponsored indoor & outdoor track, & cross country
*HS field trips (choose your topic & place!)
*day camps and weekly camps (church, scouts, zoo, raptor center)
*Exploravision
*Math Olympiad
*Online Academic League
*Book Adventure team
*Book It Pizza Hut reading program (free pizza)
*Six Flags reading program (free tickets)
*Volunteer work for missionaries
*Bible Club
*VBS
...and others I'm not recalling at the moment!
You'll find you have *more* options with HS'ing than in PS. 
It's also very refreshing to do things with HS'ers as a group b/c the kids are 99% very respectful, obedient, and work well as a group. My son gets annoyed at events that are mostly PS kids, but loves being around other HS'ers.
Don't be afraid to try things, then back out. Make goals for each year and re-evaluate each year. It's very easy to get burned out doing too much - with curriuclum work, and with activities.
I know others will list great ideas also.
FWIW, we've used the K12 curriculum for over 5 years and love it. You can mix and match grade levels, work at varying speeds in courses, and the scope & sequence is amazing. We've always used it as independent HS'ers, not thorugh a virtual school.

More and more children are being homeschooled these days. Because of this, there is an abundance of resources for homeschooling. There are several types of homeschooling, including Classical, Montessori and Eclectic. You may also have heard of Abeka homeschool. Actually, Abeka is not a type of homeschooling but a curriculum package that parents of homeschooled children can use.
The Abeka homeschool curriculum is one of the most popular Christian homeschooling curriculums. It is a complete learning system that includes a teacher's guide, suggested lesson plans, templates for testing, and textbooks. The Abeka curriculum is known to be challenging; it is typically one grade level ahead of regular public schools. Thus, a first grade Abeka curriculum is equivalent to second grade public school curriculum.
The Abeka homeschool curriculum covers homeschooling from kindergarten to 12th grade. It is an accredited, faith-based home schooling program used by many Christian schools. Like any curriculum, it has its pros and cons that you must consider before you decide to use it in a homeschooling program for your kids.
Pros

Abeka homeschool relies heavily on textbooks and workbooks. It is more time-consuming than other curriculums for homeschooling. Thus, it may not be the ideal curriculum for parents who prefer a more relaxed approach. Also, average students may find the accelerated curriculum too challenging, leading to higher burnout rate.
Abeka homeschooling offers an accredited program for kindergarten up to grade 12 where report cards and transcripts are maintained by Abeka. The program is offered with a video option or traditional parent-directed option. It is a faith-based, accelerated curriculum and it is up to you to decide if Abeka homeschool is suitable for your child.

However, my current home is a mobile home and it is not big enough for a classroom. There are several grants available for non-profit Christian organizations, which I hope to create, BUT would I be able to use the grant money to buy a bigger modular home to put on my property in order to give kids who are depressed, emotionally unstable, or have a hard time in public school a safe environment to come and learn with out charging them anything.

Finding the right homeschool curriculum package for your child can be daunting, especially if you are new to homeschooling. You may mistakenly believe that just because private and public schools use a formal curriculum, you should also do the same for your homeschooled child.

Home School Cirriculum – Should I Homeschool my children?
One of the first questions most parents ask is does home schooling actually work, and isn’t it going to take up to much of my time, how can I get all that I need done and home school. However homeschoolers are aware that all the worries and woes get done, especially when one knows about the barrage of current headlines of failing standards in education. Parents are also only too aware of the fact that the public schools have problems, but really wonder whether they can do any better. One natural response for some parents is to try a little harder to see if they can afford private schooling but, even if this were possible, are the private schools faring any better than the public schools? Would a home school curriculum help the situation in anyway.
The simple fact of the matter is that there are many, quality studies which show that, on average, home schooling produces actually superior students. To an extent of course this is understandable as parents clearly have an effect on education no matter which route they take. A parent who is genuinely interested in the education of his or her children who provides a home School Cirriculum, the resources, help to motivate their children, will often produce better results as the children are receiving a lot of individual support and intervention this is often a help not an hindrance, particulary for children with additional needs.
In the United States the Department of Education agrees. In one study which they sponsored themselves home schooled students produced exceptionally high test scores. The median scores in every grade were far higher than those of public schools and even higher than those of private school students. The average home schooled student in grades one through to four was a grade level above that of public school peers and, by the time home schooled students reached the equivalent of the 8th grade, they were as much as four years ahead of students attending public school.
As if this were not enough, costs were also lower. On average, government schools spent ,500 per student each year and private schools spent ,500. By contrast, parents undertaking home schooling spent about 0 per student each year. This figure for home schooling does not of course take into account the time spent by parents on home schooling for which a public school teacher would be paid.
The public school system as we know it today evolved during the second half of the 19th century as one state after another made school attendance compulsory. Perhaps the most interesting question however, and one which rarely seems to be asked, is why, if public schooling offered such superior value, why was necessary for the states to make it compulsory and to force parents to put their children into the public school system. Which appears to be a very interesting point to ponder on.
It could be, and sometimes is, argued that this was due to the ignorance of rural parents who did not see the value of education. However, it is interesting to note that adult illiteracy rates in 1840 Massachusetts were as low as 2% and that, by 1995, this figure had risen to 19%, in spite of apparently enormous advances in the intervening years. In 1840 libraries were rare and today they are everywhere as books are both relatively inexpensive and easy to trade.
Today in the United States over a million children are home schooled and thousands of home schooled students have attended colleges and universities, including many of the most prestigious and difficult to get into.
Whatever your own thoughts about home schooling vs public schooling or whether a homeschool curriculum would work for you there is no doubt that the results clearly show the advantage of home schooling.
