Question by twinkly_k: How can I become a homeschool teacher?
I have worked as a professional tutor for ten years. I am interested in receiving my homeschool teaching credentials. Where should I start looking? Any suggestions for good schools? I am located in the Los Angeles area. Thank you!
Question by Kristin: What is the best Christian homeschool material?
I am in the market for a good homeschool curriculum. We are a Christian family and would like to use Christian based material but it's not a must as we can teach her ourselves at home and through Church. My daughter isn't preschool age yet but I wanted to get a headstart on what we are going to use and get all the details about what we need to know...since I have never homeschooled before. Thanks!

Answer by Mary A Depending on where you live there are many options. There are free online charter schools and private ones as well.
Many online charter schools are popping up all over. Many of them are now using k12 products. k12 schoolsare good for many reasons. Each student is given a placement test and then given individualized curriculum based on his or her individual needs. With the help of online charter schools today, homeschooling can be much easier than it used to be. They provide you with everything you need, a computer, a printer, books, supplies, and teachers that you can both email and call for help and assistance. This is free and there are no charges. Online schools are definitely becoming a way of the future for the children in generations to come.
Going to an online school is no different than going to a traditional public school or a private school. They graduate with a real diploma the same as any school. My son graduated from an online charter school and now attends a private university (University Of Dayton) with scholarships. They will also help you with making sure that all state required tests are done yearly and proficiencies are completed for graduation.

Question by Starfall: Must be certified teacher to homeschool your children?
I just heard something this weekend that one of the states (I think California) has just passed a law that you must be a certified teacher to homeschool your children. Has anyone else heard this? If it is true, how is this going to affect homeschooling laws/criteria in other parts of the US?
Best answer:
Answer by Allison makes sense, you should have to be as qualified as anyone else for the education of your kids
hopefully it'll prevent unqualified people from pulling their kids out of school and creating narrow-minded, self-interested "citizens"

Question by COspringsyo: I am going to homeschool my children. They are still 3 and under but I want to start really researching.?
I don't know much about homeschool philosophy, teaching methods and curriculum choices. Can you tell me of a good resource to read either on the internet or a book to read. We are Christians and want a christian Curriculum for sure.

Answer by Nette on the Bayou This could be my daughter 8 years ago. Her oldest is now 12 and she has 4 younger. They are Christians and do a relaxed learning. She is what you might call "unschooling". If you want to learn more about this, check these links. She uses the library, buys lots of all kinds of great books and doesn't have a set curriculum. They also use the internet. Sometimes these kids are learning and they don't even know it! She makes it all so much fun. I will ask her if she would mind talking to you if you want to. But, if you want to do more of a structured teaching, there are great resources available. School of Tomorrow is one and Abecca. She likes the Abecca math, but not the writing tools, so she mixes.
The first link is wonderful and explains so much. My daughter just bought a test to use on the 12 and 9 year old (boys) to see their acheivement. She then compared to the level of public school "expectations". They are at least a year, and in parts 3 years ahead. They enjoy learning, and they have a hunger to learn that is stifled by the public schools. I just wish I had been able to do that with mine. Good luck, and if you email me, maybe we can get you and Kendra together. She is such an advocate for homeschooling.
If you want more, search 'relaxed homeschooling' and you will be amazed. Or search homeschool curriculum. Good Luck and may God lead you through this wonderful adventure you and your children are about to embark on!
Question by Pencilh8r: What's the difference between regular Rosetta Stone and Homeschool?
My mom wanted me to find Rosetta Stone for her on eBay. The cheapest thing I could find was homeschool. Is there any difference between this and the regular, person version? Would we need a licence?
Best answer:
Answer by Doodlestuff Rosetta stone is a language development (i.e. French, Spanish, English as a second language). Homeschool version is set up for students in junior high and high school vs. the personal version which is directed more towards adults.
I would email Rosetta Stone about their requirements if you are buying used. I don't know if the license is transferable or not.
