Question by Duchess: Where can I find a good Homeschool group in the Detroit Area?
I'm new to this area and live in a suburb ... I'm looking for a homeschool group as that's how my own children are schooled. Where we used to live I belonged to one, but here ... I can't seem to find any very easily. Any ideas?

Answer by FreeThinker Boy, I can see why you're having such a hard time. I googled and couldn't find a thing to try and help out. However, at Jon's Homeschool Resources site I was able to find the following: http://www.midnightbeach.com/hs/Michigan.html I didn't weed through the whole thing to specifically find Detroit but mostly because I do not know which surrounding suburb you live in. Have you tried to do a specific suburb homeschool search?

Just wondering if homeschool groups pool their money together to get tutors to help with writing, math, etc. I am a certified teacher with 25 years under my belt and a Masters in Education. Was wondering if I should contact my local homeschooling group to "sell myself" at and hour.

Answer by glurpy I've never heard of a group doing that, although the odd parent here and there will ask if anybody knows any tutors. However, if you had some more creative sessions to offer rather than just tutoring, I think you'd definitely generate some interest.

News report on couple arrested for home-schooling. Richard Cressy, 47, and Margie Cressy, 41, both of the town of Glen, never registered their four children or their home-schooling curriculum with the local school district, said the Sheriffs Office, reports WRGB, a CBS affiliate in Albany, New York. The Superintendent of the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District confirmed the four children, ranging in age from 8 to 14, had not been registered with the school district for the last seven years. The couple may lose custody of their children. The case has been turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney and the Child Protective Unit. On his radio show today, Alex Jones said the arrest and demand that parents turn their offspring over to the state is like a scene out of Planet of the Apes. In the cult classic, apes hunt humans and intern them in a slave gulag. Police and the CPS are not acting like apes on the hunt.
